NiMH battery (nickel metal hydride battery)(Ni–MH battery)
A nickel metal hydride battery (NiMH or Ni–MH) is a type of rechargeable battery. The chemical reaction at the positive electrode is similar to that of the nickel–cadmium cell (NiCd), with both using nickel oxide hydroxide (NiOOH). However, the negative electrodes use a hydrogen-absorbing alloy instead of cadmium. A NiMH battery can have two to three times the capacity of an equivalent size NiCd, and its energy density can approach that of a lithium-ion battery.
Many battery applications are well suited to be powered by NiMH battery rechargeable batteries. In general, devices that require large amounts of energy and are used frequently are well matched to the performance characteristics of NiMH battery. Examples of these devices would include digital cameras, GPS units, and MP3 players.
NiMH battery have the same memory effect as Ni-Cd batteries, but are much smaller than Ni-Cd batteries. Therefore, NiMH battery is not necessary to perform a discharge operation every time it is charged (because improper operation will damage the battery), it only needs to be fully charged and discharged every three months to alleviate the memory effect.
NiMH battery is a significant electrical punch in a compact, lightweight package. NiMH battery have a wide operating temperature range and typically have a cycle life of about 3000 cycles. Also, they can tolerate over charge and over discharge conditions, simplifying maintenance requirements.

The rechargeable sealed Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH battery) cell absorbs hydrogen in the metal alloy makeup of its negative electrode during charge. As the cell is discharged, the metal alloy releases hydrogen to form water.
